A project is being undertaken identify how broadly and effectively First Responders are using existing technology, and to gauge which technologies will be important in the near and mid-term. If you have an interest in this subject, there may be an opportunity for you to participate in the evaluation.
The objective of the Tri -Services Technology Capability Assessment project, administered by CATA Alliance in partnership with the Canadian Police Research Centre and Tri-Services Agencies (Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, EMS Chiefs of Canada, and Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police), is to identify how broadly and effectively First Responders are using existing technology, and to gauge which technologies will be important in the near and mid-term.
Some key components of the project include:
- Listing common technology utilized by first responders (by service line - Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services),
- Identifying challenges presented by their operational environments
- Formulating questions from which the holistic assessment framework must be developed
- Refining the communications strategy/methodology
- Recruiting peers for validation and testing purposes
- Providing on-going guidance and advice
- Championing the cause - act as spokespersons if/as required
- Defining the output analyses that the assessment tool should provide
Project organizers are seeking candidates who have demonstrated experience in the use and application of technology in their field, ranging from those used on the front lines, to those in the labs and back offices. They have and will be approaching individuals who already possess the expertise required, but are clearly interested in inviting those who also have a passion and subsequent proactive desire to participate in this research undertaking. Please contact any of the organizers listed below if this describes you, Don Warden (CAFC), Kelly Nash (EMSCC), and Peter Cuthbert (CACP)
