This article is provided as a follow up to the second CanVOST web conference to help CanVOST supporters use PTSC-Online technology to more quickly and effectively advance the development of CanVOST (Canadian virtual operations support team). If you are not yet a supporter, see below on how to become one.
During the last web conference a significant number of resources were identified that may be valuable to support developing a Canadian virtual operations support team. It would be helpful if this information could be shared among all CanVOST supporters and others who are interested in the VOST concept. This article provides suggestions on how to do this and some additional suggestions for advancing CanVOST.
- Use the CanVOST wiki to share any resource material that may be helpful in developing CanVOST. Click the ADD ARTICLE button, provide a title for the article, provide a brief description and most important of all click the green PUBLISH button at the bottom of the article to save your article. You can include hyperlinks, images or video in the text section of the article and add attachments. Once an article has been published click the EDIT ARTICLE to edit your article or someone elses article to update and improve the information it provides. The wiki tracks the changes and who made them. Use the wiki to share web links to on line resources, documents, presentations, videos or any other useful resource. My challenge for each supporter is to add one resource before our next web conference.
- During the web conference many aspects of developing CanVOST were discussed that require further discussion to come to consensus on how they should ideally be included in CanVOST. Some of these were (1) what tasks should CanVOST perform, (2) who should be included, (3) what credentials and training are needed, (4) how should training be provided (5) how does CanVOST integrate with other technologies and programs, (6) how does CanVOST establish credibility with the established emergency management organizations to name just a few. As CanVOST supporters are still a new and informal group individuals have not taken on or been assigned specific responsibilities. If there is an aspect of CanVOST in which you have a particular interest and would like to facilitate discussion to help the group reach consensus, please make that known by taking the initiative to initiate discussion on that specific topic on the CanVOST discussion forum.
- If training in using the PTSC-Online technology would be helpful, attend the on line training session which has been scheduled specifically for CanVOST supporters.
- If you are a PTSC-Online member who would like to become a CanVOST supporter e-mail Bill MacKay and request to be added to the supporters group. If you are not a PTSC-Online member, join PTSC-Online and note you want to be included as a CanVOST supporter on your membership application form.
