DEI Director of Emergency Information. For the duration of an emergency, the Director of the Communications Branch of the Ministry of the Solicitor General assumes the role of the Director of Emergency Information (DEI). Working with Emergency Measures Ontario, the provincial emergency management organization, the DEI ensures that the media, public and others receive regular information about the emergency.

EHSB Emergency Health Services Branch - Section of the Ontario Ministry of

ELSEmergency Lodging Services
EMCC Emergency Measures Coordination Committee. The EMCC has been established for several years. EMCC coordinates MOHLTC activities related to emergencies.
EMO Emergency Management Ontario. EMO is a branch of the Ministry of the Solicitor General and is responsible for monitoring, co-ordinating and assisting in the formulation and implementation of emergency management programs in Ontario. As part of its ongoing response role, (formerly Emergency Measures Ontario (EMO)
co-ordinates provincial emergency management;
manages the daily operations of the Provincial Operations Centre (POC), including producing an emergency situation report each day detailing emergencies throughout Ontario;
provides scientific and technical advice;
develops the provincial exercise program;
co-ordinates emergency preparedness and response training;
co-ordinates federal/provincial emergency activities and programs, including the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP); and
provides advice and assistance to support community emergency response.

Plans Act is the legislative authority for emergency management in
Ontario. The Emergency Preparedness Act provides a statutory basis for
effective civil emergency preparedness, and for cooperation between federal and provincial governments in this area.

of Department of National Defense, Emergency Preparedness Canada
(EPC) is the Government of Canada's primary agency through which it
seeks to achieve an appropriate level of national civil emergency
preparedness.

JEPP Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (a component of EMO) Joint Emergency Preparedness Program in Ontario, is an EMO administered cost-sharing initiative which provides financial assistance to communities seeking to improve local emergency preparedness arrangements.
JICJoint Information Centre. The JIC is a method of providing emergency information when a coordinated provincial response is required, is to establish a Joint Information Centre (JIC). The JIC brings together communications representatives from provincial ministry communications branches, affected communities and industry, and the federal government. The role of the JIC is to act as the main source of local emergency information delivered to the media and the public on behalf of the participating organizations. The DEI provides direction to the JIC and has overall responsibility for its operation.

OCIPEP Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Emergency Preparedness. OCIPEP will develop and implement a comprehensive approach to protecting Canada's critical infrastructure. It will provide national leadership to help ensure the protection of this infrastructure, in both its physical and cyber dimensions regardless of the source of threats and vulnerabilities. It will also be the government's primary agency for ensuring national civil emergency preparedness, encompassing the existing functions of Emergency Preparedness Canada. PEP Provincial Emergency Plan. PEP sets out the role of the province in preparing for and responding to major emergencies in Ontario. It outlines the responsibilities of each ministry in an emergency, and describes how a local head of council or the Premier can declare an emergency. Emergency Measures Ontario (EMO) is responsible for maintaining and implementing the PEP on behalf of the Government of Ontario.

PIOPublic Information Officer
POC Provincial Operations Centre. The POC is located in the offices of EMO in downtown Toronto. In the event of a serious incident, such as a tornado, chemical spill, nuclear accident, flood, etc., or actual declared emergency, the POC is activated by bringing together the duty team. The team consists of the operations officer, duty manager and other staff as required, to monitor, co-ordinate and assist communities during an emergency, and to co-ordinate and direct provincial emergency management.
