In the wake of the May, 2011 wildfire that devastated the community of Slave Lake, Alberta, donations poured in from across Canada and around the world. A project is being undertaken identify how broadly and effectively First Responders are using existing technology, and to gauge which technologies will be important in the near and mid-term. If you have an interest in this subject, there may be an opportunity for you to participate in the evaluation.
The objective of the Tri -Services Technology Capability Assessment project, administered by CATA Alliance in partnership with the Canadian Police Research Centre and Tri-Services Agencies (Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, EMS Chiefs of Canada, and Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police), is to identify how broadly and effectively First Responders are using existing technology, and to gauge which technologies will be important in the near and mid-term.

There are always opportunities to collaborate within ones emergency management and business continuity program to continuously improve the program, but there is an opportunity coming up in April for collaboration on a national scope which I believe requires special mention. It is the "Emergency Services Management" in Canada conference and the potential PTSC-Online has to facilitate collaboration following the conference.

Rather than providing an example of collaboration, this article highlights the efforts of four communities that are seeking to collaborate on joint municipal delivery of regional fire services. Any suggestions you can provide them will be appreciated.
There are four communities east of Regina which are seeking advice and input on creation of joint municipal delivery of regional fire services. Moving beyond the mutual aid agreements, these communities are looking to share capacity. They are looking for areas which have considered or implemented this type of structure in the past. And they are also seeking out a consultant to assist with developing the organizational structure and financing models.

I just came across an unusual source for information on managing ER to chemical spills. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the US Department of Commerce has an excellent web page that collects links to training, software and other tools for managing ER. Since I couldn't find a blog or wiki on the site for sharing useful links, I've created this article. Please share anything that you're aware of, that you think would be useful for others.
Be Disaster Ready! is a unique program that teaches Niagara's youth how to prepare for a range of disasters that could affect them and their families. This multi-collaborative program was created in 2009 by Niagara Region Emergency Management in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, Emergency Management Ontario, Environment Canada and the Niagara Region Children's Safety Village.
