Journal Discussion Blog

The Journal Discussion blog has been added at the suggestion of the IAEM Student Region to provide interdisciplinary students involved in emergency management the opportunity to discuss academic papers and make recommendations for improved outcomes on either problems identified or lessons learned. Please post a brief article about your paper in this journal discussion blog, attach the paper as a pdf file and request persons who are willing to comment on the paper to add their comments to the article which describes your paper.

PTSC-Online requests students participating in the academic paper reviews to recommend changes or additions to the journal discussion blog or the student group space by commenting on my blog article in the student blog.

Following the release of the NFPA 1600-2010 Emergency Management Standard, I was asked to write a brief analysis paper regarding the Communications and Warnings section as compared to the CSA Z1600-2008 Standard.

Please let me know if you experience issues with the PDF attachment. This project was also an experiment in using Google Docs and required a few formatting concessions. The opinions expressed in this work are my own, and a section is included on my thoughts as a new reader of CSA Z1600. Much gratitude goes to Bill MacKay for his patience and guidance, and also for his work on PTSC-Online.

I hope it can be of some use.

  • Municipalities without emergency plans rely on the Province for the first level of response.

The Research

  • Proposed Research Question - Why have so few municipalities completed their emergency management plans?
  • Design - A grounded…
