How PTSC-Online Works

How PTSC-Online Works

The PTSC-Online mission is to support continuous improvement of Canadian emergency management, business continuity and critical infrastructure protection programs by providing tools for on line information sharing and collaboration. Some of those key tools are described below.

The PTSC-Online vision is to be the virtual on line community of choice for Canadian emergency management, business continuity and critical infrastructure protection professionals for the purpose of networking, communication and collaboration on emergency management related matters. PTSC-Online collaborates with and supports other organizations which have similar goals and objectives.

Member Directory

The member directory provides access to the member profiles of PTSC-Online members.  From a member's profile you can learn about fellow PTSC-Online members, view their contributions to PTSC-Online and communicate with them. View an on line tutorial highlighting the member directory features.

Blogs

PTSC-Online blogs are provided for sharing information on a number of emergency management topics. Blogs may be public or private.  Only PTSC-Online members can create blogs but they can be set to accept comments from all viewers. PTSC-Online is continuously seeking the assistance of subject matter experts / expert bloggers to provide our members with up to date information on emergency management topics such as standards, collaboration and accreditation. View an online blog tutorial.

Discussion Forums

Discussion forums are provided to facilitate discussion among PTSC-Online members on emergency management topics, PTSC-Online sponsored projects and improving the PTSC-Online community. Forums can be used to seek members help in finding solutions to problems or to proactively share best practices to help other members.

Knowledge Base

The PTSC-Online knowledge base is similar to Wikipedia.  It is a place where members can collect and share information about emergency management.  In keeping with PTSC-Online's focus on emergency management standards, accreditation and collaboration on emergency management issues, we believe our knowledge base will focus on similar topics.

Activity Highlights

A What's New section makes it easy for PTSC-Online members to quickly find out what has been happening since their last visit to the community. This section highlights blog, discussion group and wiki activity activities and identifies the members who have been contributing to PTSC-Online.

Jointly Sponsored Projects

When PTSC-Online members agree on the need for a project to develop a product or service that will benefit emergency management in general, PTSC-Online collaboration tools may be used to help scope and manage the project. PTSC-Online can also manage the project funding if required.

Links to Professional Networking and Social Media

To raise the visibility of PTSC-Online, to facilitate networking with other professional networking forums and to help share emergency management information with members of the public PTSC-Online is linked to several professional and social networking sites. Highlights from PTSC-Online are shared on a PTSC_Online Twitter account, Linked In Group, Face Book page, Google + page and it has a You Tube channel to facilitate video sharing.

Security Precautions

As most of PTSC-Online can be viewed by the public, caution should be exercised when adding or responding to blog articles or discussion forums, so as not to post items which might increase security risks. If needed, a private blog or discussion forum with restricted access can be set up to facilitate discussion.
